Hex Code

A hex code is a format used to identify colors. It is a hexadecimal system that consists of six-digit alpha-numerical codes to represent specific colors. Each color has its own unique hex code. It is used by designers and developers for various purposes while developing technical and marketing collaterals such as webpages, logos, social media posts, and user interface elements. It is used in HTML, SVG, and CSS codes.

Hex Codes are an essential part of designing and branding exercises. They are crucial as they denote specific colors that can have a huge impact on the design identity of a business. All major corporations keep track of the hex codes they are using to ensure consistent branding design and messaging.

Hex Codes in Design

The hex codes allow for 16,777,216 possible color combinations. It is a major component of graphic design that has made choosing colors and keeping track of them easier. Hex codes allow designers to create complex colors as per their needs and improve the visual quality of design on a modern computer screen.

The format of a hex code is #RRGGBB. It consists of 6 digitals consisting of 3 pairs preceded by a hash symbol (#). Each pair represents a color component and its intensity. Check out the exact structure below.

  • The first two digits of a hex code represent the red component.
  • The two middle digits represent the green component.
  • The last two digits represent the blue component.
