Shade

Shade is the darker variation of a single color. It refers to a hue that is created after mixing black with the base color. It is the version of a pure color that appears to be darker to the human eye as it has black in it.

As per color theory, a shade is a color that is made darker by adding black to it. When black is mixed with a pure color, all hints of grey and white are removed, giving it a darker appearance. Shades are an integral part of visual hierarchy as they enable users to discern different visual elements and enhance their overall experience.\

Shade in Design

In graphic design, shades are commonly used to create a visual interest in the design. They help create cohesive color palettes that enable a designer to create contrasts and depth. Shades help designers use a wider range of colors to make their designs more striking.

Shades are created when a tiny bit of black is added to a pure color and it gets a bit darker. However, as one adds more and more black, the shade of the color will keep getting darker until there is no more scope to add black without completely turning the original color black as well. If one keeps adding black, after a while, there will not be any hint of the pure color and it will appear nearly black.
