Sconce

A sconce is a fixed wall-mounted light. It is used to direct light upward and downward while keeping the light source partially hidden. Earlier, people used sconces to hold candles or oil lamps; in the modern day it holds electric lights.

Sconces come in various types, from simple modern designs to fancy, old‑fashioned styles. You can use them in hallways, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living rooms.

Tips for Installing Sconce

Proper and strategic placement of sconces can help improve your interior design while providing a functional illumination. Here are a few things to keep in mind when installing it:

  • Consider height: Mount sconces at eye level (approximately 5.5 to 6 feet from the floor).
  • Mind the spacing: Position multiple sconces 6 to 8 feet apart in hallways or larger spaces for balance.
  • Balance with other fixtures: Use sconces with ceiling and floor lighting for layered illumination to eliminate shadows.
  • Scale appropriately: Choose sconce sizes that complement your wall space and surrounding elements.
