Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumb, also known as a breadcrumb trail, is a navigational tool through which users can easily find their way around a website or an app. It is a secondary navigational scheme used to locate where a user is on the website.

For websites with many pages and sub-pages, breadcrumb navigation is useful for browsing and accessing information. Breadcrumb is convenient for users and simplifies their user journey. It is important to note that breadcrumbs are not a replacement for traditional navigation bars, they are an added feature to enhance user experience.

  • Breadcrumb should be on top of the page and ideally go from left to right.
  • The text used for breadcrumb navigation should be easy to understand
  • For mobile devices, the breadcrumb text should be shortened.
  • Breadcrumb trails should be short and separated by delimiters like ‘>’ or ‘/’.
