The golden ratio is also known as the golden mean. It is an irrational number with a value of 1.618 that is derived by calculating the ratio of two numbers. The golden ratio is represented by the Greek symbol ϕ, called ‘Phi’.
The golden ratio in design is used to ensure balance and visual appeal. Incorporating the golden ratio results in harmonious and proportioned designs and is especially used in creating logos.

The golden ratio is an important UI UX concept as it impacts the user perception of a design. To calculate the golden ratio of a design, you divide a line segment into two smaller parts. The longer part (a), divided by the smaller part (b) should equal the sum of (a) and (b) divided by (a). The resulting number should equal 1.618.
The actual value can be calculated by using the golden ratio formula -
a/b = (a + b)/a = ϕ
Φ = 1.61803398874989484820…
In this number, the digits after the decimals continue forever without any repetition.
