Minimum Viable Product (MVP)

A minimum viable product or MVP refers to a product with few, necessary features meant to satisfy the core user’s needs. It is the step in product development that proves the hypothesis regarding a product and its use.

Creating an MVP helps identify the problems with the product in the earlier stages of development. It also helps gather valuable feedback and information to facilitate future iterations that ultimately improve the product.

Not to be confused with

Prototype

It is a simplified, early version of a product used for testing and refining functionality and design.

What is the MVP Stage of Product Development?

The MVP stage of Product Development is the one where a simplified version is designed to gain initial feedback and validate the core assumptions with which the product was first conceived. Here are some features of the minimum viable product (MVP) that everyone should know.

  • Simplified Focus - The product has simple features focusing on core functionality.
  • Quick Validation - It enables quick validation of m=product in terms of costs and market fit.
  • Allows Iteration - MVP starts the iteration process, during which the product can be improved based on continuous feedback.
  • Lean Approach - The Lean UX approach enables quick learning and waste minimization.

Three Elements of MVP in UI UX

The three major elements of minimum viable product in UI UX design are as follows:

  • Usability - This refers to the core features and their focus on the user's needs and problem-solving.
  • Value - This refers to the usable solution. This element is about creating a solution that offers value to users.
  • Feasibility - This refers to the technical and financial viability of developing the product. It helps understand whether a product is worth developing or not.
