Cornice refers to an ornamental molding or border at the edge of the ceiling of a room or under the roof of a building. They are generally made of wood or plaster in angular or circular shapes. In some cases, they are also flat and can be made of other materials.
The word’ cornice’ originates from the Latin word ‘coronis’ meaning a curved line.’ Its origin can be traced back to Greece and Roman architecture. Cornice serves aesthetic purposes but they also help in preventing damage to the building.
