Tableau

Tableau is derived from a French word meaning “picture.” It is a visually appealing arrangement of different elements, colors, and textures that aim to create a narrative that can serve as a focal point for a decorative arrangement.

A tableau is thoughtfully composed to reflect a specific theme or mood. It is a carefully balanced composition of decorative and personal objects generally placed on a flat surface. A tableau is generally larger and more impactful than a vignette.

A well-executed tableau serves several functions -

  • It adds layers of texture, color, and dimension.
  • It provides a space with a point of focus.
  • It makes decor look more personal and unique to the owner.
