Tile

A tile is a durable, manufactured piece of hard-wearing material. It is generally made of ceramic, porcelain, stone, metal, or glass. In interior design, tiles are used to cover floors, walls, and other surfaces, like countertops.

Tiles come in various sizes, shapes, colors, and patterns, and are manufactured in a controlled environment so they can be customized. They are hard, non-porous surfaces that are resistant to water, stains, and wear. This makes them versatile and a very common element in interior designs.

Uses of Tile in Interior Design

Tiles are versatile, durable, and water-resistant, which makes them functional as well as decorative. They have various uses in interior design, such as -

  • Flooring - Tile is an ideal flooring material for high-traffic or moisture-prone areas like kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, and mudrooms.
  • Walls - Tiles are used in bathroom and shower walls due to their waterproof nature. They are also used to create a backsplash to protect the wall behind a sink or stove.
  • Countertops - Tiles are also used for kitchen and bathroom counters as they are budget-friendly and highly customizable.
  • Decorative Mosaics - Small tiles, made of glass, stone, or ceramic, can be arranged in intricate patterns to create a unique focal point on floors or walls.
